ATTENTION!.....ATTENTION, PLEASE!

Yes, that's me standing on the tallest building in blogland.  Sorry for the screaming.  I was just trying to get your attention.

Here's a pretty picture to keep your attention.

my Easter lily

I've got to get something off of my chest that's been really bugging me lately.  And I know it bothers some of you too.  No, its not the word verification on blog comments.  GASP!  That actually doesn't bother me.  GASP again!

So here's the deal.  I love, love, love getting comments on my blog.  Who doesn't?  But I hate it when I can't reply to them...via email.

Lately, I have noticed that I'm getting alot of "no-reply comments".  What does this mean?  It means that I have no way of replying to your comment if you are a no-reply commenter.  Of course, I could reply to you right on my blog post but then you'd have to go back to that post to read it.  I actually tried that a few days ago but I just didn't like it.  I'm an email person.  It's how I prefer to reply to comments.

How do you know if you are a no-reply commenter?  Here is how you can check.  Go to your Blogger profile page (sorry, I don't know how to check this for Wordpress blogs).

This is what my profile page looks like.

You can check to see if there is an email address connected to your Blogger account (left arrow).  Still not sure or want to change it?  To change your settings to allow comments, click on the "Edit Profile" button on the top right corner of the page. (right arrow).

This is what you'll see.

Check the box that says "show my email address" (left arrow).  You can also see what email address will be associated with your blog to the right (red box).

Almost done!  The last step is to scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Save Profile button.

Yay!  You're done!  Now do your happy dance.  I'm doing mine because now I can reply to you via email :)

One last thing.  Some people may not want their primary email address linked up to their blogger account.  I didn't.  So I created a different email address to only use for my blog communication.  Look at my settings.

When I sign into Blogger, I use my "username" email address (opto2889@gmail.com).  It's my google account email address.   But, I use another address (shasta.intheoldroad@gmail.com) to communicate with others, via email, on my blog.  As you can read in the red box, creating this address to use for blog communication does not change the email address that I sign into Blogger with.

Call me weird, but I like to organize my "email life" that way.  I also have a different one for ebay stuff and family/friends.  Just so you know, there are ways that you can get all of your email accounts forwarded to one place.  I use Windows Live on Windows 7 so I don't have to go to each account separately to check my email.

OK, now that I've completely confused you, here's another pretty picture.  This one is of my chippy water fountain in my back yard.

Thank you to everyone that linked up to my "What's You Favorite Room?" linky party.  I have enjoyed looking through all of the links and getting to know your decorating style better.  The party will be open through Sunday.  I'll be featuring some of the rooms on my facebook page and do a summary post next week.

Have a great week, everybody!

  2. I just did a post on this, it's the worst thing! I love responding to comments and seeing the 'no-reply' when you try is sad. If we all band together, we can fix this!

  3. You are so right - I'm an email responder also. I HATE it when I can't respond. But, I think I'm good - but I will check. We seem to be able to communicate okay.
Pretty pictures, by the way - just to draw attention away from your rant :-)

  4. Great info! And I agree, I hate it when someone leaves a comment or especially when they ask a question and I can't reply back to them.

  6. I'm a no-reply commenter, and I didn't even know it until Kellie from Live.Love.Rowe told me!....so it is not by choice! ;) I have wordpress, have tried to fix it; thought I DID fix it, but it seems I didn't get the job done, sadly. Just so you know....some of us are "TRYING" to get it fixed! lol! (psblaxton@att.net !) ~paula♥

  11. Hi Shasta: I'm Connie at http://hotflashncraftn.blogspot.com/, a new GFC friend. I would love for you to stop by and be mine, too.
I hate the no-reply. But I've gotten smarter as time goes, I check before I take the time to write out personal thank yous to comments on my blog.
Now try to get people to lose the verifications, I hate them too.
Thanks for sharing, have a great weekend.
