My husband's family has this tradition of giving each other money and the birthday boy/girl picks out his/her own gift. I've always thought that the tradition was weird and resisted it every year. Every May, I would put "my" money in the bank and use it to buy groceries, household stuff, etc.
Well, not this year...no, I bought something for me! I bought myself a Kindle Fire.
I've been wanting one since last Christmas but have resisted the purchase until now. A few days ago, I got the idea of using my "birthday money" to buy it. Did I wait until I received said money? No. I whipped out that credit card and bought it ASAP. You see, I have a problem. When I decide to buy something (esp. electronics), I want it right then and there. I'm an almost 47 year old woman that acts like a child when it comes to electronic gadgets. Shameful!
OK, here's what I really wanted to tell you. When I played with my new toy yesterday, I discovered two really cool things.
One, the gorgeous set of the TV show, "Hot in Cleveland". I had never watched it but always heard about how pretty the girl's house is on the show. So, to try out the video on the kindle fire (which is beyond awesome, btw), I watched an episode of "Hot in Cleveland". The set is design is beautiful. Most of the scenes take place in a simulated Victorian farmhouse. Here are my two favorite "rooms" of the show.
The kitchen. I'm in love with the stove! And just look at the floor. A little "modern" touch in a vintage kitchen?

Another cool thing I discovered was the magazine, "Old House Interiors". I picked it to see the image quality of the kindle fire when looking at magazines. I was immediately hooked on this magazine. Here is their website. Just look at some of these pictures from their May/June 2012 issue.

Well, needless to say, "Old House Interiors" was my first magazine subscription for my kindle fire. I am very impressed at how clear and detailed the images are.
Do you have a kindle fire? What magazines or books do you have on it? Anything good? Do tell....
If you don't have one, go get one. You'll love it. You can always create a pre-birthday for yourself.
You're welcome :)

Oh, you lucky girl, you! I like the way you think. I soooo want a Fire and I seriously dropped about a million hints at Christmas, that neither my hubbs or my daughter caught on to. They're both pretty intelligent human beings, otherwise, so I seriously wonder about the disconnect?? Maybe I'll just have to try it your way. My b-day already passed, so maybe I'll shoot for Mother's Day. ;~)
ReplyDeleteOkay, first of all, spending your birthday money on groceries is sacrilegious. I get money from someone every year and I hoard it until I find the perfect thing to spend it on. Usually plants. :o)
ReplyDeleteI'm so non-techy it isn't even funny. I don't even own a cell phone for cryin' out loud! But that kitchen pictures is flippin' AWESOME.
Yay! Good for you!! I have poor impulse control too. Big time.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen the show either, but wow, lovely!
XOXO
Lucky lady! This is so on my list...I really want a Kindle Fire...my son knows that, so I am hoping he puts the bug in my hubby's ear!
ReplyDeleteLook at you go! Good for you!! I don't have the Fire, just the normal kindle but LOVE it! have fun with it!! Jen
ReplyDeleteGood for you spending your money on yourself! Sounds like you are having fun:)
ReplyDeleteI love my Kindle Fire! I have 6 magazine subscriptions on mine, and love being able to take it with me in the car when we have a long drive! So glad you treated yourself...sometimes it's hard to do!

Haven't bought into the reader technology yet. Still trying to adjust to "reading" a magazine on the computer. Miss the tactile feel of the paper. But I know I will eventually. After all, I was the girl that said she would never use the laptop - why would I need a computer at arms reach all the time? Famous last words.
ReplyDeleteHappy pre-birthday! Love that magazine and your post on vintage hankies!!! Found you on Cheri's blog hop, and am your newest follower, will you follow me back?
