My Pinterest Challenge (bleach pen shirts)

I'm almost embarrassed to show you this project because it shows my lack of drawing skills, lol.  And, to top things off, I ran out of "supplies" in the middle of the project so I'm late with the post.

I decided to start making my niece and nephew's Christmas presents.  The first thing I wanted to make for them was personalized t-shirts for playtime.  The kids are 1 (girl) and 3 (boy) years old and I chose t-shirts that were going to be slightly big on them.  I thought they would be good to wear as "cover-ups" so their clothes won't get messy when finger painting, playing in the mud, etc.  You know, fun kid stuff :)

My inspiration for this project was this and this.

I love, love love the pink doodle shirt.  I'm definitely making one of those for me next!

To do this you need a Clorox bleach pen and a dark colored t-shirt.  I had a bleach pen (half used) and it ran out of bleach halfway through the project.  I had to search 3 stores before I found another one to finish.  Why are these so hard to find?

I bought 2 kid's solid color t-shirts (red and pink) from Joann Fabrics to use.  They were on sale for $2.00 each.  Before "writing" with the pen, insert a piece of cardboard in the shirt so you won't have any bleed thru.

Here is how they turned out.

Let me show you what not to do.  Before I started on the kid's shirts, I experimented with writing with the bleach pen on one of my husband's shirts.  Before using the pen, shake it.  Because this is what will happen if you don't.  Just sayin'.

See that arrow? That's where, for some reason this watery looking stuff started coming out of the pen and my line kinda smeared all over the place.   Hmmm, wonder why.

Learn from my mistakes...read the directions on the bleach pen!  "Shake well before using".

  2. I heard if you outline the design in chalk first, it gives you a little bit more direction before you use the bleach, it also helps soak up the bleach, preventing it from bleeding where you don't want it to
